Sycamore is a bilingual Japanese English member of the United Church of Christ (UCC), a progressive Christian denomination. Sycamore has a rich history beginning with its founding by Japanese students in Oakland in 1904. Members experienced the internment camps in the U.S. and hardships during and after World War II. We resettled in El Cerrito in the 1960s and extend our hands of friendship and service to the wider community today.
We welcome all, love all, and seek justice for all.
Sycamore offers a wonderful Japanese language-based Preschool,
led by Director Yoshimi Kinoshita and Patti Sato.
Sycamore’s facilities are used by a number of other organizations, including a group of teachers offering Japanese language throughout the week and on Saturday.

Sycamore Summer Day Camp 2025
Sycamore Day Camp will be held again this year. The camp theme is “Jesus teaches us to…Love, Serve, Share, Pray and Hope”. It will be held July 28 – August 1, 9:00 – 1:00. There will be a special Day Camp Sunday on August 3. The camp is open to children age 3 to those entering 5th grade. Youth entering middle school and up can sign up to be counselors. The cost of the camp is $225 and $175 for siblings.
Registration fees are waived for counselors. Delicious lunches will be provided daily at no extra cost. Registrations can be made online but please pay for the fees by check and mail to Sycamore Church 1111 Navellier St. El Cerrito, CA 94530.

Sycamore Bazaar
The Sycamore Bazaar will be held on Sunday, September 21, 12:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. a wonderful bazaar is being planned again this year so we hope to see everyone there. There will be entertainment, plants, Hidden Treasures, children’s games and of course, delicious foods.
Please invite your friends and if you haven’t signed up for a volunteer shift on bazaar day, please contact Reiko Kamada at rkamada@hotmail.com or (510) 230-3727. You don’t need to sign up to help on Friday or Saturday before the bazaar, just come and we will put you to work. Please look at the list to see where you can volunteer. Your help is much needed and appreciated. Thank you!

WORSHIP
All services include singing, shared and individual prayers, and other ways in which we worship God as part of the Beloved Community.
ACTIVITIES
Sycamore is a vibrant community that delights in service, food and fellowship. We have all-church activities like the annual bazaar and rummage sales, as well as a very active Women's Fellowship group.
NEWS
Most of our communications are sent electronically. We have a monthly newsletter, the Sycamore Tree, and a weekly newsletter, the Sycamore Branch.
