Welcome to Our Church!
Sycamore is a bilingual Japanese English member of the United Church of Christ (UCC), a progressive Christian denomination. Sycamore has a rich history beginning with its founding by Japanese students in Oakland in 1904. Members experienced the internment camps in the U.S. and hardships during and after World War II. We resettled in El Cerrito in the 1960s and extend our hands of friendship and service to the wider community today.
We welcome all, love all, and seek justice for all.
Sycamore offers a wonderful Japanese language-based Preschool,
led by Director Yoshimi Kinoshita and Patti Sato.
Sycamore’s facilities are used by a number of other organizations, including a group of teachers offering Japanese language throughout the week and on Saturday.

Halloween Party- Sunday, October 27
The Sycamore Church invites children in costume to attend a Halloween party on Sunday, October 27. Please join us in the sanctuary at 11:00 am for a blessing. Then the children will go downstairs to Adamson Hall for healthy snacks and games. When the worship service is over, usually around noon, there will be a cakewalk so parents and church goers can admire the witches, ghouls, bats, cats, butterflies, dinosaurs, superheroes, princesses and other costumed revelers on parade. We hope to see you there!
Thanksgiving Sunday Pancake Breakfast- Sunday, November 24
November 24 is Thanksgiving Sunday. We will have our usual Pancake Breakfast starting at 8:30 until 10:30.
The Pancake Breakfast will include 2-3 pancakes, 1-2 eggs, 1-2 slices of ham and unlimited coffee and juice. The Women’s Fellowship will have their boutique during the breakfast. They are accepting donations of things to sell at the boutique. If you would like to donate any baked goods or craft items to sell at the boutique please contact Karen Inouye at iknowu@comcast.net or 510-237-5676.

WORSHIP
All services include singing, shared and individual prayers, and other ways in which we worship God as part of the Beloved Community.
ACTIVITIES
Sycamore is a vibrant community that delights in service, food and fellowship. We have all-church activities like the annual bazaar and rummage sales, as well as a very active Women's Fellowship group.
NEWS
Most of our communications are sent electronically. We have a monthly newsletter, the Sycamore Tree, and a weekly newsletter, the Sycamore Branch.

Sycamore Christian Preschool is a Japanese/English bilingual preschool program with an emphasis on Japanese language and culture.
