Martin Luther King & Centennial Celebration

Osamu Kumao (thank you!) and I had a great time meeting people and passing out flyers for El Cerrito's Centennial Celebration yesterday after the parade to honor Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King. Here's an important link to the dozens of events associated with the Centennial, including the parade in which we will have a contingent march on Saturday, Sept. 16, and the Sycamore Bazaar on the 17th. Supervisor John Gioiasends his greetings to Sycamore Church, including appreciation of our Bazaar and community involvement, as well as Rev. Deborah Lee for her immigration-related ministry. Council Member Gabriel Quinto let us know that work has finally started on the Hana Gardens senior housing project at the site of the former Tradeway Furniture building. This project will retain the florist shop from years that was supplied from the greenhouses owned by Japanese American flower growers.
